Liisa Hashimoto is a Japanese jeweller and object maker, and although she was born in Texas, she has lived most of her life in Japan. She is currently based in Osaka, where she also owns and runs contemporary jewellery gallery, HiNGE.
Her work is simultaneously delicate and robust, with wonderfully organic and earthy textures acting as a fabulous foil for the whimsical sprouting leafs and sweet buds that appear in much of her work. I love the contrast of the rough and un-shiny chunkiness against the beautifully balanced sense of space. And I’m not sure if they remind me more of an underwater garden, or of microscopic life forms.
And aren’t these earrings with a message lovely? I’m not sure what they say, but what a great canvas for serious thoughts!
You can find more of Liisa’s work at HiNGE.
