Surface design : Allie Roberts
There’s something seductive about these gorgeously feminine prints from recent Cardiff Metropolitan University graduate, Allie Roberts. They are both delicate and tactile, in a soft, clear palette, centred around magenta and yellow.
Nature provides endless inspiration, and Allie spends a lot of time outside, recording her observations with plenty of detailed pencil drawings. She then works into those drawings with watercolour, using broad, liquid strokes in rich colours. They are further developed into final designs in Photoshop and Illustrator, before being digitally printed onto fabric.
Perhaps its those sensuous drips and the stain of loose watercolour, but I can’t get enough. They’re delicious.
Allie is currently designing for fabric, but is also looking to develop surface designs for other areas, including papergoods. She also has previous experience with laser cutting, screen-printing, digital stitch and metal casting.
