A visit to the Liberty store in central London as a child was a seminal experience for Kris, aka KristopherK, surface pattern designer. It was a wonderland of fabric and pattern, and the romance of being in such a historic, architectural jewel of a building was not lost on her.

She was always surrounded with art and creativity as a young girl, so designing and making always seemed the natural to do. Her mother was a photographic retoucher and artist, and her grandmother, also an artist, owned an art gallery in Sydney. When Kris was still in high school, she won the 1988 Mosman Art Youth Award, with a large watercolour she had painted. It was an Australia-wide competition, and at the time she couldn’t quite believe it was her that had won; “I was so honoured, amazed and intimidated all at the same time”.
After completing a screen printing course at Seaforth TAFE in the late 1980s, Kris was set on her way to becoming a textile designer. However, it was much later before Kristopher K Design was founded in 2009.

Currently making her home on the Gold Coast, Australia, she is inspired by the romance of French Provincial, eclectic modern and all things natural. Her palette of muted pastel pinks, blues, greys and linens is fresh with white highlights, and her designs are filled with flowers, soft stripes, and soothing textures. Gentleness pervades everything she does, even the designing process itself. “For me there is a sheer joy in creating and an absolute peace in designing, where hours so often seem to fly by like minutes.”

Even though she loves what she does, for her the world is still full of infinite possibilities.
“I still haven’t decided what I want to be when I grow up.”

“The best advice I’ve received is to live life at your own pace and be true to your authentic self.
“This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.”

Hi I love your designs and am wondering whether you allow your designs to be reproduced. I’m creating a small bespoke sports clothing label in Australia and would like to use the shabby English roses design to begin with reduced by 50% for some garments. I use Eclipse fabrics as they need to be specific for tennis. I want to create an Aussie label all made in Australia. Thanks!
Hi Carmela,
Unfortunately KristopherK seems to have abandoned both her Spoonflower shop and her blog – so I’m not sure how you would get in contact with her? Her last known email address is kristopherk@live.com.au – so I hope you can get hold of her there.
Best of luck with your brand new clothing label!!
Cheers, Julie
Is kristopherk design still doing fabric design? I corresponded with her a few years ago about a special project and I am Jo longer getting a response. TIA.
Hi Tamara,
Unfortunately I only have Kris’s Spoonflower contact (via http://spoonflower.com/profiles/kristopherk), and it seems she hasn’t been active on her blog for some time? You could try emailing her at the address she gives there – kristopherk@live.com.au. All the best!
