So now tractorgirl has settled into her second week of holidays at the beach with her family. More music is always on the agenda, listened to whilst travelling between rockpools and fishing spots and bushwalking spots. The tempo has changed to something more introspective and gutsy. Herewith more of the special tracks that have caught my ear over the last year or so, chosen for their sounds (and sometimes for their lyrics – although not always….).

Deborah Conway is well known in Australian music. Last year she and long-time partner Willy Zygier released the fabulous album Stories of Ghosts,  a collection of songs about her disillusionment with religion and its unfulfilled promises. The songs are both harsh and beautiful, and above all, passionate.

I love it. SUCH a good album, I kept putting it away because I knew I would listen to it a lot, and I didn’t want to spoil it.
