Out beyond ideas of rightdoing and wrongdoing
there is a field.  I’ll meet you there.
Jalal al-Din Muhammad Rumi –  13th C

Those of you who know me from twitter or facebook will probably know I had a car accident yesterday. No one was hurt at all, although the car is bit of a mess – but it’s only a car. And if things had been different by so much as a second, it all could have been so much worse.

Nonetheless, my children are safe, and so am I. For that I am incredibly grateful.

It is these periodic hiccups in our lives that make us stop and reassess. It’s time to go outside, take a walk up a hill and admire the view – just because it’s there, and it’s lovely. It’s time to stop and breathe.

See you soon.

Food : cinnamon apple teacake

I’m not quite sure where this recipe came from, it’s printed on a scrap of paper like it’s been cut from a magazine. Nonetheless, I recommend it to you – it’s easy peasy, and the cinnamon sugar forms a delicious syrupy crust over the apple on top.

cinnamon apple teacake

Cinnamon apple teacake

1 1/2  cups self-raising flour
pinch salt
1/2 cup caster sugar
60 g butter
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
1 large granny smith
2 tspns ground cinnamon
extra 1/4 cup caster sugar

Preheat oven to moderate (180’C).
In a small bowl, combine cinnamon and extra sugar. Peel & core apples, slice thinly.

Cream butter and sugar together until pale and fluffy, beat in egg. Fold in sifted flour and salt alternately with milk, and mix well. Spread mixture into a well greased 20cm cake tin; arrange the apple slices on top, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.

Bake for 40-45 minutes.

Perfect with a cup of tea.

poem for today : 26.12.11

In spring hundreds of flowers,

In summer, refreshing breeze.

In autumn, harvest moon,

In winter, snowflakes accompany you.

If useless things do not hang in your mind,

Every season is a good season.

launching soon…

I am so excited that I will be able to share my new blog with you soon! Featuring the things that are dear to me – craft, surface design, and books, I intend it to be a visual feast of colour, texture, and pattern (with text, of course!).

I’m just adding to my (already large) collection of beautiful ideas and images at the moment – there is so much wonderful stuff, I almost don’t know where to start….. but I will, and I’ve set the launch date for 28th November – that’s less than two weeks away, friends!

So mark the date in your calendar, sign up for emails (just there to your right), or join me on Facebook and Twitter, so you don’t miss it.

See you all soon!
